On September 13, 2018, I will be joining forces with 4 other panelists at the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section Annual meeting in Austin, Texas to present the CLE Program “IP Financing 360 ̊: Market and Legal Dynamics”
Speakers:
Eric D. Hille, Chief Executive Officer, Syzgy Partners LLC, Indianapolis, Indiana Philip Kline, Managing Director, 284 Partners, LLC, Detroit, Michigan
Michael D. Rubenstein, Liskow & Lewis APLC, Houston, Texas
Pauline Stevens, Partner, Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis, Los Angeles, California
Topic: Intellectual property financing requires an understanding of the legal framework governing the existence and regulation of intellectual property, as well as of the secured transactions and bankruptcy regimes. It also requires a good grasp of the market framework relating to the valuation of intellectual property and available financing vehicles.
Focusing primarily on the United States, Canada and, to some extent the People’s Republic of China, the presentation will take an overall look at the interplay of legal and market dynamics in intellectual property financing with a view to highlighting the gaps in the systems that create challenges for lenders and borrowers.
Pauline and I will introduce the legal issues relating to IP financing, Eric will present available IP financing vehicles, Phil will walk us through IP valuation issues and Michael will present the insolvency/bankruptcy perspective in dealing with IP collateral.
Join us for a complete overview of IP financing legal and business challenges and opportunities and for a reflection on possible ways to mitigate the risks and leverage the value of IP, a key asset in today’s intangible economy.
